2004-03-25: AMTRAK "TRAIN OF HOPE" ROLLS AGAINFree Transport For Cancer Survivors and Family Members To Stowe Weekend of Hope
This Spring, April 30-May 2, 2004 the Stowe Area Association, in conjunction with Fletcher Allen Health Care, the Vermont Cancer Network, and Copley Hospital will present the 4TH Annual Stowe Weekend of Hope—a celebration of life and learning for cancer survivors and those who love them. Over 1500 participants from more than 20 states are expected to attend. They will stay in hundreds of free hotel rooms donated by lodging owners in this charming and historic Vermont town.
Limited free transportation for cancer survivors and close family members all along the Eastern seaboard is provided by the 2004 Amtrak Train Of Hope. This year’s Train of Hope will depart from Washington, D.C. at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30. En route to Vermont, it will stop at 15 locations to pick up Train of Hope passengers. The Amtrak Train Of Hope will arrive at 7:31 p.m.
Amtrak and Astra Zeneca Oncology provide the train’s complimentary seats, along with volunteer escorts, healthy food, fun and support during the ride.
One in three people alive in the United States today will be affected by cancer in some way. The Stowe Weekend of Hope helps to combat this dreaded disease by both educating and inspiring people with cancer and those who love them. The Stowe Weekend of Hope is unique because, unlike most national events, which focus on only one form of the disease, the Stowe Weekend of Hope is for people with all forms of cancer. The event brings hundreds of cancer patients together from all across the U.S. to learn, gain support, and find inspiration in Vermont.
